To pursue a successful business in today's trade market, companies should not only gain technology and price competitiveness, but also comply with various international norms regarding safety, security, environment, etc.

Export control has been one of the most influential international regimes that could affect a company's life especially since UN Security Council Resolution 1540 required all member states to take actions against any threat to international peace and security caused by the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery.

Thus, exporters now have the responsibility to verify if their exports are subject to controls or their purchasers are associated with WMD proliferation. While the international community is developing stronger mechanisms to detect illegal trades, the industry is required to pay more attention to export control regulations and comply, fulfilling social responsibility and minimizing trade risks.

Considering the burden of compliance imposed on industry, Korea Strategic Trade Institute was established to be a supporter to create an environment where companies can comply with export control with a minimum cost. KOSTI undertakes various tasks to assist industry with regard to export controls. They include classification, license application, outreach, research, etc. Most of all, KOSTI is operating an online export control system called Yestrade(www.yestrade.go.kr), which is a system with international reputation. KOSTI also provides consultations on adopting internal compliance program for companies to lead a safer trade.

　 KOSTI, which was established by 'Foreign Trade Act', is called to represent Korea's strong will, that is, to guard world peace and security, build up a cooperative relationship with other countries and, most importantly, protect our industry from any possibility of involvement with illegal transactions or proliferation activities. As an export control specialized organization, we will do our best to carry out our mission by constantly improving expertise and serving our industry with humility.
